Whitby 199 Steps Coastal WalkContact: 0300 373 1100 Website: www.cftrust.org.uk Please arrive early to register and be ready to start the walk at 11am. Registration will be in the Whitby Abbey car park from 10am. There is a large car park with toilet facilities, with a charge of £4.50 to park all day so do try and car share as much as possible. This stunning 10 mile walk, led by David Peacock, will take you along the coastal wall from Whitby Abbey towards Robin Hoods Bay. The Cliff walk is undulating with some steep steps, stone walls and sites to cross. After walking for four miles we will have a short break at the Fogg Horn Light House, and then continue on to the Woodland Caravan Park where we will stop to eat our picnics and use the facilities. The walk then doubles back towards Whitby along the railway line, crossing the main A171 twice where there are pedestrian crossings. The last part of the walk is along the harbour and up the 199 steps back to Whitby Abbey for a well deserved cup of tea and homemade cream scone in the YHA Café. Parents on the walk should be aware that children must be under supervision at all times, especially along the exposed coastal route and crossing the main roads. The walk is not suitable for young children or pushchairs. Please wear sensible walking shoes or trainers but not new shoes or sandals. If the weather is hot please bring sun hats and sun cream especially for children and suitable clothing if it is wet. Remember to bring your own picnic lunch and water to drink. Entry is £6 per adult and £2.50 per child: you’ll receive a free t-shirt on the day of your walk. There are a number of ways to enter. Visit www.cftrust.org.uk for more information.
